Alcolin Contractor’s Grade Acrylic.

High-quality silicone sealant that provides a long lasting, waterproof seal. It is an all-purpose sealant for use in and around the house.


APPLICATION AND USES

  • Perfect for repairs, sealing and bonding in boats, cars and caravans.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Priming and bonding

  • No priming necessary on most materials.

  • Exceptional adhesion to many non-porous materials e.g. ceramics, glass, enamel, porcelain, coated wood, painted surfaces, canvas, stainless steel, aluminium, some rubbers and some plastics (epoxide, polyester, polyacrylate, polystyrene, Formica, fibreglass, acrylics, polycarbonates and rigid PVC).

Surface preparation

  • Ensure that surfaces are clean, dry and dust and dirt free.

  • Non-porous surfaces should be degreased with a solvent.

  • Plastics can be lightly abraded with emery paper.

  • Do not use any type of alcohol for surface cleaning.

  • Remove all traces of soaps or other cleaning agents.

Directions for use

  • Cut the tip of the cartridge and screw the nozzle on.

  • Cut the tip of the nozzle to suit your required bead size.

  • Apply with a caulking gun in a continuous bead.

  • Masking tape can be used on surfaces to get a clean even line and to reduce cleaning efforts.

  • Smooth down the sealant within 3-5 minutes after application before the skin has formed.

  • The sealant will be touch dry within 1 hour and fully cured after 24 hours.

Cleaning

  • Clean tools immediately after application with a cloth soaked in a solvent like turpentine or thinners.

  • Cured sealant can be removed mechanically with a sharp knife or similar tool.

HANDLING AND STORAGE

  • Store in a cool and dry place out of direct sunlight in the original container.

  • Keep the container tightly sealed.

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE

  • If stored correctly the sealant has a shelf life of up to 18 months.

  • The sealant is not necessarily unusable after this time, but it is recommended that an adhesion test be done before using.

  • Life of the sealant can be extended by placing a piece of plastic over the opening and screwing the nozzle back on to create an airtight environment.

TECHNICAL/CHEMICAL INFORMATION

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Avoid direct skin contact or eye contact. In the event of contact rinse thoroughly with clean cold water. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.

  • Work in a well-ventilated area and avoid prolonged inhalation of the product.

  • Cured silicone rubber presents no health or safety risk.

WARNINGS AND LIMITATIONS

  • It contains fungicide and is therefore NOT RECOMMENDED FOR FISH TANKS.

  • Not recommended for alkaline surfaces like concrete and coarse cement. This is because ALCOLIN CONTRACTORS SILICONE releases acetic acid while it dries.

  • Should not be used on certain metals like galvanised iron or lead because the product can cause deterioration or corrosion.

  • Discolouring may occur if it comes into contact with organic elastomers (e.g. some rubbers and paint).

  • Not recommended for use on mirrors since it will discolour the silver coating on the back.

  • May discolour natural stone surfaces like marble and is therefore not recommended for use on these surfaces.

  • It will not stick on certain plastics like Teflon (e.g. pan coatings), polyethene (e.g. grocery bags and shampoo bottles) and polypropylene (e.g. model planes or cars).

  • Attempts to paint over it will not give ideal results.
